Dhanashree holds a Masters Degree in Hindustani Classical Music from University of Bombay. She has trained under the stalwart of the Kirana Gharana Pt. Firoz Dastur and the Thumri legend Shobha Gurtu. She has also received valuable guidance in Thumri from Begum Afroz Bano and Batuk Dewanji. Dhanashree is a regular performer over All India Radio and has also recorded for Music Asia (ALAAP programme) and Star Plus (NINAAD programme). She is a recipient of the prestigious SUR MANI award from Sur Singar Samsad.
Dhanashree is one of the leading exponents of the THUMRI form of music and her repertoire , besides khayal,consists of thumri, chaiti, hori, kajri , sawan, jhoola etc. She is aspiring to give thumri its rightful place on the concert stage today since it definitely faces the risk of extinction with the dominance of Khayal.
She has performed in most of the leading Musical Institutions in Bombay including the NCPA, Nehru Centre, Naad Brahma, Vile Parle Music Circle, Bandra Sangeet Sabha, Karnatak Sangh, Shiv Sangeetanjali, Rageshweree, Ratanjankar Foundation, Y.B. Chavan Pratishthan, Prabha Atre Foundation, Megh malhar Festival , Lucknow Music Festival (2006), Suburban Music Circle, Kalaghoda festival 2007 and Alladiya Khansaheb Festival 2008 to mention a few.
She has also travelled abroad extensively conducting workshops / concerts of Indian Classical music.Dhanashree is also a visiting lecturer at S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai.
In 1990, She went on a tour of U.S.A. through JAZZ INDIA where she gave lecture demonstrations/concerts to familiarize Jazz Musicians from various Music Universities with Indian Vocal techniques. She has been giving training in Indian music to several world renowned Jazz artistes.
Besides her musical accomplishments Dhanashree holds a Bachelor's Degree in French and has completed the Diplome Superieur ( Advanced French Diploma from Alliance Francaise de Bombay)
Dhanashree was awarded the "PILLARS OF HINDUSTANI SOCIETY" award for 2007-2008 by the Trans Asian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for her outstanding contribution to Vocal Hindustani Classical Music.
Dhanashree has also recorded on some fusion albums with several renowned Jazz artistes.
Dhanashree is also a founder member of SABRANG, an institution set up to desmystify the classical arts, where she has conducted several workshops on Khayal, Thumri and various aspects of Hindustani Classical Music appreciation all over India.
